Transforming the Qlik Experience:
Empowering Users with Vizlib and Hidden Insights
By James Sharp, Managing Director, Climber UK
When Qlik Sense was launched over ten years ago, I was struck by how much potential it had: powerful, flexible, and endlessly capable. But what I also saw was that many organisations struggled to help everyday users truly engage with their data. That has also been the driving force behind Climber for years: making analytics more intuitive, more collaborative, and more useful to the people who rely on it.
That vision came to life again recently during a webinar I co-hosted with Kabir Rab from insightsoftware, where we explored how Vizlib’s suite of extensions can completely transform the Qlik experience.
It’s amazing to look back at how far the Vizlib extensions have come. In 2016, Climber began developing its own Qlik Sense extensions to make dashboards more visual, more interactive, and more usable. Those extensions caught the attention of Vizlib, and in 2019 the ‘Climber Extensions’ were acquired by Vizlib, merging our solutions into the Vizlib product family. It was a natural progression built on shared purpose. Then, in 2023, Vizlib joined the insightsoftware group, giving even greater resources, reach, and alignment with Qlik’s product roadmap.
That continuity means something important for our customers: you’re getting the innovation of Vizlib, the deep Qlik expertise of Climber, and the enterprise strength of insightsoftware, all working together to enhance the way you use data.
During the webinar, Kabir and I showcased the full Vizlib portfolio, but the two areas that really stood out for me were Self-Service and Collaboration. These are the tools that bring real, tangible value to businesses.
Vizlib Self-Service
Vizlib Self-Service is all about giving control back to the user. Rather than waiting on a developer to build every new report or view, users can explore data for themselves, and easily build charts, tables, and visualisations as questions arise. It’s intuitive and fast, and I often say that if someone’s comfortable creating a pivot table in Excel, they’ll have no trouble getting to grips with Self-Service. It’s a powerful way to increase data literacy and reduce the bottlenecks that slow down decision-making.
Vizlib Collaboration
Then there’s Vizlib Collaboration, which turns static dashboards into living, breathing workspaces. This is one of my favourite features because it connects people directly to their data. You can comment on charts, share insights, and even write back data, all within Qlik Sense and Qlik Cloud. There’s no need to export to Excel, send screenshots, or chase down feedback by email. Everything happens in context, right where the analysis lives.
Vizlib in Action
Kabir demonstrated this beautifully during the session, showing how colleagues can leave comments directly on charts, ask questions about a specific data point, and pass along their selections so others see exactly what they saw. It removes ambiguity and turns data into a shared conversation. In my experience, that’s where the real business value lies, collaboration that drives action.
We’ve seen these tools in action across many industries. One recent example is the Premier League, who use Vizlib Library to create dashboards for football clubs that look and feel just like their own branded websites. It’s a fantastic demonstration of how far you can take Qlik and Vizlib, when you combine technical capability with great design and user experience.
Vizlib Hidden Insights
But what excites me most right now is what’s coming next. insightsoftware has just announced Vizlib Hidden Insights, an AI-powered feature that will take analysis in Qlik to a whole new level.
Hidden Insights brings a natural-language interface directly into your Qlik dashboards, think of it as a ChatGPT-style assistant built right into your data. You can ask questions, run comparisons, detect anomalies, and uncover patterns that might otherwise stay hidden. It’s smart, intuitive, and requires absolutely no technical setup. In seconds, users can compare performance across years, regions, or products, or spot outliers that traditional filters might miss.
To me, this is where analytics is heading, not just showing data, but helping people interpret it intelligently. Hidden Insights will make analysis faster, more conversational, and more accessible for everyone, no matter their level of experience.
Summary
When I look at how far Vizlib has evolved, I see a toolset that doesn’t just complement Qlik, it amplifies it. Self-Service gives people independence, Collaboration brings teams together, and Hidden Insights makes the whole experience smarter.
At Climber, we’re proud to be part of this journey helping our customers unlock the full potential of their data, whether you’re just getting started with Qlik or moving to Qlik Cloud.
